PUSD Board Member Olmos De Leon gets most votes from SELA teachers

Paramount Unified School District Board Member, Sonia Olmos De Leon, has won the most votes in the race to represent the Southeastern region of the California Teachers Association.

Results of CTA Southeastern regional election. Olmos De Leon earned the most votes.

First elected by the voters in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, Olmos De Leon ran on a platform of clear air, transparency, and a greater support for students with special needs.

“I ran on the side of clean air for our families, for our students in our PSUD classrooms. There have been many improvements, but we still have a ways to go,” she said.

As elected delegate with CTA, Olmos De Leon will have the opportunity to advocate to a broader audience at the National Education Association (NEA).

When discussing the results, Olmos De Leon said “I speak the truth and people see that. People are hungry for leaders who acknowledge the problems, but the establishment just wants to sugarcoat the problems.”

Olmos De Leon noted especially the challenges facing families with special needs. “There are injustices in schools, and special education teachers don’t have enough support. I brought attention to that,” she said.

Although Olmos De Leon did not win the endorsement of the Paramount Teacher Association, she said “It’s clearly shown here that I have the most support from teachers. The community of teachers and constituents voted for me.”
